Quick Start

Up and running in 5 minutes. Follow these three steps and you will have a fully working SharePoint file explorer.

Custom scripts must be enabled first. A SharePoint admin must allow custom scripts on the target site collection before you upload the file. Without this, the upload will fail or the file will not render. This is a one-time setting change that can take up to 24 hours to take effect. See the Installation Guide for full details.

1

Upload

Ensure custom scripts have been enabled on the site (see warning above). Then navigate to your SharePoint site and open the SiteAssets library from Site Contents. Click Upload → Files and select SPExplorer.aspx from your computer.

SharePoint Site └─ SiteAssets └─ SPExplorer.aspx ← Upload here
2

Open

Navigate directly to the file URL in your browser address bar. Do not click the file name inside the library — this will download the file instead of opening it. The URL will look something like:

https://yourtenant.sharepoint.com/sites/YourSite/SiteAssets/SPExplorer.aspx

Bookmark this URL so you can return to SPExplorer at any time.

3

Explore

SPExplorer automatically detects your SharePoint site and displays the Home dashboard with folder tiles for each root-level folder in your default document library. Click any tile to navigate into that folder and see its contents.

Getting Around

SPExplorer has two main views and several navigation aids to help you find files quickly.

Home View

Folder tiles give you quick access to root-level folders. Click a tile to drill down. The breadcrumb bar shows where you are.

Explorer View

Click "Explorer" in the navigation bar for a full tree view on the left with a detailed file list on the right — just like Windows Explorer.

Search

Use the search bar at the top to find files across all folders. Results update in real time as you type.

Upload

Drag files from your desktop and drop them anywhere on the SPExplorer page to upload. A progress indicator shows the upload status.

Adding More Sites

SPExplorer can connect to multiple SharePoint sites, letting you browse and manage files across your entire organisation from one place.

  1. Click the site name displayed at the top of the folders section to open the site switcher.
  2. Click “+ Add Site” and enter the full URL of another SharePoint site (e.g., https://yourtenant.sharepoint.com/sites/AnotherSite).
  3. SPExplorer will validate the URL and add the site. You can then switch between sites using the dropdown at any time.

Each site can be assigned its own colour to help you distinguish between them at a glance.
